Team performance as rated by the fans and pundits
The average score or rating for each player was collated from various newspaper and football fan sites, every week. This then gave an average for the whole team. Using a variety of sources took out the statistical 'noise' you'd expect from some partisan opinions. This was repeated every week and the averages for the whole season are presented below.
Entertaining games score highly in the performance rating system, and disappointments are punished heavily; Liverpool's dire stretch through a large part of this season accounts for their lowly position. Some of the other eyebrow-raisers might not actually surprise those that watched the teams frequently; Fulham, Bolton, Blackpool and Newcastle were all involved in some great football matches, Man City languishing in the bottom half of the performance table might make punters think twice before placing their 2011/12 bets.
